A Merry War, also known as Keep the Aspidistra Flying, is a charming British romantic comedy-drama starring Richard E. Grant and Helena Bonham Carter, based on the novel by George Orwell.

Set in 1930s London, the story follows Gordon Comstock, a talented but frustrated advertising copywriter who dreams of becoming a successful poet. Determined to reject the materialistic values of society, Gordon quits his comfortable job to pursue a life dedicated to art and literature.

However, his idealistic ambitions soon clash with financial difficulties and his relationship with Rosemary, a young woman who loves him but struggles to understand his unconventional choices.

Combining British humour, romance and social satire, A Merry War explores the conflict between artistic freedom, love and financial security.

A wonderful addition for collectors of British cinema, literary adaptations and 1990s romantic comedies.
